Application:
1.In the leather industry, melamine resin is a commonly used pre-tanning, retanning and filling resin, among which trihydroxymethyl melamine resin is the most widely used amino resin. Amino resins have a tanning mechanism similar to aldehyde tanning: the prepolymer penetrates into the skin, and as the pH value drops, the prepolymer automatically condenses into molecules of a certain size within the skin. Through the condensation of the active -NHCH2OH in the molecule with the amino groups on the collagen peptide chain, a covalent cross-linking system is formed, achieving the tanning purpose. Meanwhile, amino resin has a filling function. Braum, Aloysins and others used detection methods such as GPS, IR, 1H-NMR and 13C-NMR and found that this resin has both tanning and filling properties, and can be filled in large quantities between the collagen fibers of leather to achieve the effect of making the leather plump. Melamine resin tanning agent is used in the retanning of chromium-tanned light leather, making the finished leather have a fine grain surface, a full body, obvious thickening, good whitening effect, and excellent lightfastness. Moreover, it has excellent compatibility with other tanning agents. When used in combination with vegetable tanning agents, it can promote the penetration and absorption of vegetable tanning agents, and increase the wear resistance and weather resistance of the leather. If it is used for retanning suede, the pile effect is good.
2. Application in the Papermaking industry: The principle and performance characteristics of using it as a wet strengthening agent and water resistance agent: Due to the presence of hydroxymethyl groups in melamine formaldehyde resin, which can form etherification structures between fiber bundles, the cross-linking between different molecules generates water resistance, thereby enhancing the wet strength of the paper sheet. Therefore, it is mainly used as a wet strengthening agent and water resistance agent in the papermaking industry. The main product used in the papermaking industry is trihydroxymethyl melamine. However, due to its unsatisfactory stability, water solubility and free formaldehyde content, as well as its adverse effects on the whiteness and durability of paper, modified resins are currently widely used.
